The Top New Cars Coming in 2022

2022 is already shaping up to be an incredibly exciting year for cars. There are plenty of vehicles to be excited about from luxury SUVs to compact city cars.

Moreover, with the market scrambling to fully embrace electric, it’s undoubtedly going to be a year of change where many of us get our hands on our first electric vehicles.

Here are some of the vehicles we’re most excited about.

Citroen Ami

• Price: £6000

Perhaps 2022’s most petite release, Citroen’s tiny all-electric Ami may be the dream city car for those on a budget.

Powered by an 8hp motor and a 5.5kWh battery, the two-seater certainly isn’t a powerhouse with its top speed of 28mph and a range of 46 miles. But for what it lacks in power it makes up in convenience, with its tiny frame, sustainability and light price tag.

BMW M2

• Price: £60,000

BMW’s M2 needs no introduction. Its size, reliability and ride have been lorded for almost 10 years at this point.

The new M2 is sure to tick all the same boxes. With its turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine bringing a performant 470 horsepower. It will also feature options of automatic or manual gearboxes and rear- or four-wheel drive.

It’s no question the new M2 will be a package which combines performance and luxury.

Cupra Formentor VZ5

• Price: £50,000

Relative newcomer Cupra’s original Formentor released in 2021, but the upcoming VZ5 version pulls even more out of the vehicle’s attractive design.

Now featuring 390hp, up from 310, the new version will take you from 0-60 in a swift 4.2 seconds. Not bad for an SUV. But as only 7,000 of them will be manufactured exclusively in left-hand drive, if you’re in the UK and in the market for a Formentor, we recommend going with the original model.

New Honda Civic Hatchback

• Price: £21,700

The Honda Civic is one of the most widely adored cars out there. The new version will continue that trend, dropping the over-the-top stylings of the previous model but keeping the plush, roomy interior. 

Available in hybrid only, the new Honda Civic features a 1.5 litre petrol engine shared with the new HR-V, Honda’s flagship SUV.

Mercedes-Benz EQE

• Price: (estimated) £60,000

Sporting a very similar aesthetic to the larger EQS, the new electric take on E-Class screams style and sustainability, while retaining all the usual trappings of Mercedes-level quality.

Featuring a 90kWh battery boasting 410 miles of range, this electric comes into direct competition with Tesla’s landmark Model S.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz

• Price: (estimated) £50,000

All-electric SUVs sound unfamiliar, but what about an all-electric campervan?

Taking the design language of Volkswagen’s iconic campers, this vehicle is going to offer up to 342 miles. As the vehicle is yet to be officially announced, it has been tipped that we can expect at least three discrete versions: a camper, an MPV and a spacious commercial vehicle variant. 

We can expect more on the ID. Buzz in early 2022, with release likely coming at the end of the year.
