This is bad news for me. I had no idea this was even happening!!

British car dealers are running out of availability of new electric vehicles and are starting to pull the plug on new orders, according to reports.

Drivers intending to make the switch to an electric vehicle are discovering they might have to wait a minimum of 12 months before they can get behind the wheel of a new car due to a shortage of availability.

Waiting times for Tesla's Model S and Model X are now up to two years and in some instances dealerships are putting the brakes on new orders of popular plug-in models, including MG Motor's ZS EV.

What really upsets me about this is the fact that they are charging people extra fees and road taxes, even if they fully intend on switching over. If there is no stock, there is no option! I am going to have to make sure whatever I decide on, there will be stock available so I can purchase it. I intended on buying in July.

I heard about this. I am wondering if it is specific models, brands, or what.

My wife and I want to each get an EV soon here but if they are all back ordered and out of stock, I am not sure what we will do. I don't want to buy used.

They have to sort this. I don't know how but this is going to cause a huge mess and it will end up discouraging people from buying electric cars if these shortages continue. Who wants to put money down on a car and have to wait 2 years before they can drive it!?

Agreed, 100%. I noticed whilst looking online in my area there are not very many options even for used EVs and I think this is because they are low stocked on new ones so people looking to switch, they are buying up all the used ones while waiting for the new ones to be back in stock.
